5 Simple Steps to Selling Your Digital Product Online

Nowadays there are a plethora of different digital products that you can create. The following article applies most strongly to the creation of digital books (or eBooks). However, the ideas and some of the methods may be applied to other products as well.

Create Your Product

For some people this is the hardest part, but it really doesn't have to be. When deciding to create a digital product of your own, you want to choose something that you're interested in. You should choose something that you're passionate about.

Not only will choosing something that you're passionate about make creating your product that much easier, but your passion will shine through in the final product. True passion will, in turn, increase sales.

Once you have chosen your topic, it is time to create an outline. You don't want to just start writing right away. You want to create a roadmap of where you're planning to go. Having this outline will ensure that you don't forget things along the way and it will make it that much easier to write.

After you've created your outline, you can begin to write.

If you're more comfortable with a pen and paper, you can certainly write your book that way. Just keep in mind though that eventually you will need to type your book into the computer.

If you're using the computer right away you can simply start typing in any word processing program. Don't worry too much about formatting. This is always something you can come back to later. Right now you just want to focus on the writing.

Format and Upload Your Product

Once you've completed the writing, you want to make sure that its in a format that everyone can easily read. For this purpose I always try to turn my document into a PDF file.

With most of the major word processing programs this is very easy to do. Look for an option that is similar to "Export as a PDF". This will transform the document and allow you to save it as a PDF file.

Now that you have the file in the proper format, you need to get it online so that your customers can download it. So naturally, before they can download your product, you need to upload your product.

Set Up a Payment System

Once your product has been uploaded to it's online storage location, you need a way to receive payments. There are many options out there, so do a little research and sign up with one you feel comfortable with using.

Promote Your Product

Now that you are able to receive payments, it's time to make some money.

In order to make sales, you need to promote your product as much as possible. There are many different methods you can use, but you should at least try to take advantage of all the major players. These could include:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • Squidoo
  • Hubpages
  • Forums related to your topic

If you can utilize these areas, you should be able to draw some attention to your new product.

Bring in Reinforcements

No matter how hard you try, you need to realize that your reach is limited. That is to say that you can only come in contact with a certain number of people all on your own.

That is why it is important to bring in reinforcements or in this case affiliates. So while you are promoting your product (and hopefully making your first few sales). You want to make sure you have an affiliate program set up.

An affiliate program will allow you to greatly extend your reach. This will allow you to make more sales.

That's all there is to it. So get to work.
